The Word of the Lord to Jeremiah

Chapter 45

Baruch being dismayed, 1-3, Jeremiah instructs and comforts him, 4, 5.

1 Jeremiah the prophet spoke a word to Baruch the son of Neriah when he had written these words in a book from the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying, 2 "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch: 3 'You said, "Woe is me now! For the LORD has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing and I find no rest."' 4 Thus you shall say to him: 'The LORD says thus: "Behold, that which I have built I will break down and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land." 5 And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh,' says the LORD, 'but your life I will give to you for plunder in all places where you go.'"
